The Rumble Pack is down to just a Rumble Couple, but we’re not skipping a week! This week, Justin and Kaz dive into tons of random stuff. Justin flies through Portal 2‘s co-op test-chambers, crunches numbers in Etrian Odyssey III and protects the woodlands of Gatling Gears by laying waste to them. Meanwhile, Kaz brags about his Pac-Man C.E. DX Windows Phone 7 port and catches the Mortal Kombat bug. And while they’re still fresh out of the L.A. Noire academy, Justin and Kaz are eager to talk about what the game means for Rockstar…and whether or not it will be the most returned game of 2011. Plus, robodogs, ghostly powers, dated mechanics and dubious assessments of the game industry economy.

Poor Mighty Milky Way couldn’t have crappier timing. DSiWare is in a weird state of limbo right now; the type of gamer was who was downloading DSiWare in the first place has likely graduated to the Nintendo 3DS, and that system’s eShop doesn’t launch for a few more weeks. It’s a damn shame, too, because MMW continues WayForward’s hot streak of games for the service.
A better dinos-in-space romp than Dino Crisis 3
Mighty Milky Way is a colorful puzzle-platformer with a heavy emphasis on managing various gravitational pulls as you navigate your green spacelady to the finish hole. Luna can jump on most planetoids twice; one tap results in a tiny hop, while a second blows up the planet and sends her flying in the direction she’s facing. Players can destroy, but they can also create; so long as Luna has a “planet candy” available, she can conjure a spherical surface anywhere in space. Early levels offers some puzzle-solving leeway, but later levels force players to take their time aiming jumps and figuring out the proper order of steps for careening through space.
WayForward has certainly earned its reputation of 2D mastery, and while this game isn’t the studio’s most technically accomplished, Luna and her nameless T-Rex still have plenty of personality. I’m not sure what inspired the decidedly French flavor — Luna’s a chatty Francophile and the levels are book-ended by scenes at Parisian cafes — but it helps the game stand out amidst all the DSiWare garbage. Also of note is Jake “virt” Kaufman’s terrific pop soundtrack.
It’s admittedly been a while since I’ve reviewed something for the site, but then it’s been quite some time since I’ve played a game this likely to slip under the radar. It’s easy to forget the DSi shop given Nintendo’s long history of neglect, but whether you grab this now or when the 3DS eShop launches, it’ll be 800 points well spent.
They may have permanently shed a teammate, but the Pack fights on. This week, Justin misleads nobody into playing Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury and Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, Tom completes his trek through the OutLand, Kaz talks League of Legends nitty-gritty (including “Rumble”) and Tony tries the iPhone version of Swords and Sworcery. Plus, Le Petit Mighty Milky Way, Portal 2 co-op impressions, the mysterious missing 3DS eShop (and already lost bet), dopey muppets, Undead Nightmare and more.
So long, Nickydino. After nearly four years of Rumble commitment, Nick Accordino is leaving the show for a cushy Sony gig. However, even with the tearful goodbyes, the guys don’t skip a beat. Nick works his shoot-’em-up magic in Trouble Witches Neo, Kaz dons his nano suit again in Crysis 2, Tom frees himself from Dragon Age II‘s sinister monotony, Justin shows his two colors in OutLand and Tony doesn’t quite fall in love with Bulletstorm. Plus, Nin2Jump grappling, all manners of Suttner, an ode to a money hat, individual game song nods and a pregnant duck.

There’s no stopping Aperture Science gel from seeping into the show this week. The guys have all plowed through the Portal 2 single player campaign and they’re about to spill all the beans. If you don’t want to have Stephen Merchant: The Game spoiled in its entirety, tune out after they warn you. When they aren’t busy thinking with Portals, Kaz spins his own Monster Tale, Justin goes a Fancy Pants Adventure, Nick woos Baraka in Mortal Kombat and Tom embraces the Flashy Soul Brother. Plus, PSN Armageddon, HotGate, and the bulldog equivalent of Aqua Man.

This week we were able to chat with the creators of the popular Windows Phone game Wordament. We discuss how one decides to create a MMOWPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Word Puzzle Game), the future of more You vs. the Internet games and how to hide expenses from your spouse for the sake of gaming. Enjoy.

Toasty! This week, the Rumble Pack kicks back with the Skittles ninjas in the latest Mortal Kombat. Apparently, this one’s actually good (despite the Shiva inclusion). But all of that pastrami and cheese is overshadowed by this week’s even bigger release, Portal 2, and Kaz has the full scoop on that, too. Justin sends his Ludicolo into an eternal nightmare in Pokémon‘s Global Link and confirms that Okamiden is, indeed, a game, while Nick and Tom clash with the excellent Might & Magic‘s epic load times. Plus, a visa to Brown Town, outdated hobo tricks, Copernicus, barfing emoticons, Wii 2 hopes and an anti-catch phrase that won’t go away.

Next stop: glue factory! This week, the Pack’s missing its host, but Nick, Tom and Justin are ready for nerdery anyway. Justin and Nick discuss the hot topic The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile, while Tom seeks out more 3DS software. Plus, Captivate reactions, random super Tweets, a ton of voicemails and more.

Start searching for your Saltines! This week, the guys aren’t fooling around. Justin and Tom remain enamored with the Nintendo 3DS, Nick strides through the flawed Moon Diver, and Kaz steps into his virtual cockpit in Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed. They also tackle more PixelJunk Shooter 2, Mass Effect 2 and Castlevania DLC, Fable Coin Golf, Radiant Historia and…Deadliest Warrior?! Plus, Osman, cat noises, a bunch of voicemails and Chibi love.
