This week’s show is more fun than a sack of lemons. Kaz kicks off the show by interviewing Lee Rowland and Jorma Sainio of RedLynx to talk about Trials Evolution. (You can find that interview at the 14 minute mark). Afterwards, Justin joins the “cool kids club” by buying an iPhone 4S, but everyone else can’t get over his dislike of Batman. Plus, Tony and Tom’s gospel according to Ug, the Magic School Bus Fire, superhero movie criticism and Tiny Tower mysteries.

This week’s episode is free of any high fantasy taint. The guys kick off the Metacritic fantasy league with a few major releases and celebrate a successful night of getting out-gunned in Team Fortress 2. Kaz drives everything but a Pontiac Aztek in Forza 4, Tom leaves it to cleaver in Gears of War 3, Tony declares that Orcs Must Die! and Justin plays the latest “Only on Playstation” releases - Eufloria, Rochard and Sideway NY. Plus, the legend of Zydrunas Ilgauskus, Zoroastrianism, CWRU’s The Bridge and ever-timely “Mr. Show” references.

You Got Your Blockbuster in My Social Media Games

A couple weeks back, we had the pleasure interviewing Ryan Schneider, one of the key people involved in building Insomniac brands such as Resistance. You might have assumed that we brought him in to talk about the developer’s latest big shooter, but that evening, we had bigger matters to discuss. There was a battle taking place on browsers throughout the world, a Global Resistance with a player count that far surpassed even the gigantic scope of Resistance 2. Unfortunately, a bad Skype connection cost us most of that interview, but there was one clear takeaway – social media virtual reality games are no longer exclusively shoddy cash-ins, and developers are only going to get more ambitious in the future with their Facebook/browser tie-ins.

For those of you bombarded with updates about how many times my Sim has gone to the bathroom today (apologies!), it might be tough to see the appeal. These games are traditionally less interactive and more compulsive than typical console fare, and there’s no shortage out there of uninspired puzzlers with popular licenses attached. But I’d argue that just being able to access some part of your game from the office or morning commute is a powerful motivator, and a recent batch of franchise tie-ins actually seem thematically appropriate and ambitious.

This week, the Pack takes a journey to the center of the mind as they talk to Kan Gao, director at Freebird Games. His latest, To the Moon, is inspired by everything from Chrono Trigger to “Millennium Actress,” and the guys are eager to find out more. After the interview, Justin jumps back in the Animus for Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Kaz drives around the track in the Forza 4 demo, Tom drops a few quarters into Wizorb, and Tony weighs in on Gears couch co-op. Plus, Steve Job remembrance, endless Kairo stories, Rumble animals, ham soldiers, Four Swords bonus content, October PSN hype and Tom’s epic almost-homer.
